TorontoToday looked at the full cost of putting one child through a camp and how Open Ice covers it. At the time TorontoToday reported about $800 all in: roughly $560 for the session, and $400 to $500 for a set of equipment the camper keeps. Our own figures have since been recounted off the invoices and the current figure is $860 a camper. Ice and equipment are the two largest lines in it, in that order. Ice runs $300 to $450 an hour and we buy three hours a day. A set of equipment costs us $380, because Hockey Stick Man donates part of every set outright and we buy the rest. Coaching is donated.
The piece traced the programme from its December 2025 pilot with nine children from St. Paul Catholic School through to the March 2026 camp, and set out where the funding comes from.
