Marc Muruve
Marc Muruve was head coach for Summer Camp 2026 at Leaside Arena. He also leads the coaching department of the Headquarters Team, which works on the ice with the campers.

Guest Coach, March Break Camp 2026
Cameron Gaunce
Cameron Gaunce spent all of Media Day on the ice at the March 2026 camp, working alongside the professional coaching staff. Gaunce is a fifteen year professional whose career included time in the Colorado, Dallas, Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay organizations, and he is a current TSN analyst.

My favourite thing about hockey is not being good at hockey, it's spending time together with friends. I would imagine you didn't all know each other before showing up here this morning, but by the end of the week, you're going to spend a bunch of time together, make some memories, and hopefully that's something you can continue going forward.

How camps are coached
Coached by level, from the first morning
Every camper who joins Open Ice has never played hockey before, so coaching starts with where each child is.
- A skate assessment on the first morning places every camper in a skill group at their level, from First Stride for children brand new to the ice upward.
- Two ice sessions a day, about three hours of ice in all, led by the coaching staff with volunteers assisting.
- Small house groups of three or four campers, each led through the day by a volunteer Program Assistant.
- Life skills alongside hockey: daily challenges built around courage, teamwork, resilience and leadership.

On-ice volunteers
Every session is supported by on-ice volunteers drawn from the Headquarters Team and the wider volunteer roster. Volunteers work under the coaching staff and follow the Open Ice code of conduct and media policy.
Professional coaching leads every session. Volunteers assist, and they do not run drills unsupervised.
