Andrew Adair founded Open Ice Initiative in 2025 to remove the financial barriers that keep underprivileged youth out of hockey. He built a seventeen member student executive, recruited professional coaching, and secured partners including MCW Consultants, Platform Insurance, Rockland Resources, Pizza Pizza, PHPA and HockeyStickMan.
Under his leadership Open Ice ran a December 2025 pilot serving nine students from St. Paul Catholic School, followed by a March 2026 camp that roughly doubled it, and has distributed more than $15,000 in equipment that campers keep for good. The organisation has been covered by CTV News, CP24, Beach Metro News and TorontoToday.
I saw it as a chance to do something genuinely meaningful that aligned with my personal values. I am trying to open the door to help a new generation into hockey.
