Andrew Adair founded Open Ice Initiative in 2025 while a student at Upper Canada College. TorontoToday's Bright Spots profile covered how a high school student built a seventeen member executive, recruited professional coaching, and secured corporate partners.

The profile also covered what Open Ice is trying to prove: that the barrier to hockey in Toronto is cost, not interest, and that removing the cost removes the barrier.

I saw it as a chance to do something genuinely meaningful that aligned with my personal values. I'm trying to open the door to help a new generation into hockey.
