Why every camper keeps their equipment
The Keep Your Gear policy is the part of the model that lets a child keep playing after the camp ends.

A loaner program gets a child through a week. A gear set they own gets them through a season. Every Open Ice camper leaves with a full set of equipment that is theirs permanently, at a cost of $750 per camper for a full set, all in.
That is most of the total cost of putting a child through camp, and it is the line item sponsors are asked to cover first.
